Adam Lambert and American Idol

Mr. Adam Lambert was a once-in-the-universe find. I still shudder when I recall him saying that it's tough to make it in Hollywood. I wonder how many talented people fall when screened by the wrong people. It's scary to think that all this Adamania was all balancing on the choices of a few judges. Thank goodness they saw something special in him, and he kept upping the ante each week. (well done guys) And well done to the production team and band.

When you look at the first couple of performances, from the first of his auditions onwards, Adam was great, but he became so much more convincing as he progressed. None of us, including the judges, realized that Adam held back quite a lot at the early stages. Some of that can be attributed to the cattle run situation, but not all. Adam spoon-fed us measured quantities of his stupendous talent as he saw fit. Whether Adam knows it or not, his clever and timely allocations of his artistry were nothing short of brilliant, and left us groaning for more.

With the judging, it’s as if he soaked up all the critique from head to toe, and then some. The costuming seemed to bring him into his own, together with the real, larger stage. He would finally have felt at home, doing what he does best. Adam is a human light switch, able to turn on his powerhouse vocals at will. He's stunning.

He took on all manner of personas and nailed each and every one. I really need to get a sledgehammer and knock this bit into my disbelieving brain. AI's been over for weeks, and I am still in awe of Adam's chameleon side. I often just literally sit and smile, time after time, in amazement.

I've never seen anybody wear a soul and change it out each week. It's not a cliché either. Adam is a sum of all these parts. He IS all these men; he does love ALL these music genres.

I crave creativity, variety, and quality; they are part of my inner daily needs. They are just as important to me as breathing. If I only see one-dimensional singing, then I automatically tune out, even before I realize why. I will still watch Idol, and this time I'll expect certain standards to be met.

AI should review their disgraceful content on finale night. Why on earth would you elevate sub-standard competitors who weren't good enough to move forward, to diva status, dominating the stage with their horror shows, at the expense of real talent? I didn't want to see or hear an expelled hyena, vixen, nor clown wasting a huge amount of valuable time and space. This folly not only made a mockery out of the judges' deliberations, it stole several Adam and Kris songs away from all of us, and was a big smack in the face for the many artists we thought would make the grade and didn't. Nor should AI have given aged 'original artists' 10 min timeslots, when the contestants only had a quarter of the time, armed with a quarter of a song.

Adam has set the bar, and those contestants in his wake should heed the call.

Future shows won't be able to replicate Adam, but they may be able to show us more diverse musical styles, rather than 1,000 generic beige performers. I really feel that AI need to do this to keep the show alive, current, and relevant.

Thanks Dohn! I appreciate your kind comments. I had written about a dozen pieces, within about a week or just after. After posting on a fan forum, I was encouraged by many people to take it further; hence me finding this site a few days ago.

I've officially been a 'writer' for a month today. At the moment, I lean towards feature articles of Adam Lambert, as I've been inspired by his caliber as an artist and also as a person. I especially enjoy comedic writing, with a twist or two.

I'm driving aimlessly, so don't hold me responsible LOL
